We are passionate about regenerative living & local food systems.
About Us
I am Liv, the founder of Hands to Earth.
My background in Environmental Science, Permaculture and Agroforestry has shaped my journey and passion for creating resilient, self-sufficient home systems.
My desire to help people build home gardens and closed-loop systems is rooted in a need to reconnect people with land stewardship, and a need to reclaim food sovereignty and regenerate degraded landscapes. When I learnt that growing food with natural principles also regenerates land, bridging social and environmental issues, I knew this was where the biggest impact was.
I’ve always wanted to dedicate my time and work toward something that makes a difference. From a young age I was aware of the degradation industrial food systems had on our environment. Changing the way we produce food from industrial to regenerative seemed like the most obvious way to make positive change. Valuing localisation over global supply chains, I figured the best place to start was from the ground up, in peoples’ backyards. Changing the minds of people from convenience to ecologically and ethically aware comes with baby steps.
Our mission at Hands to Earth is to empower people to create food security and resilience at home, designing productive and efficient edible landscapes that are complementary to modern lifestyles. We believe in the power of edible home gardens to nurture both people and the environment, while synergising a connection between the two.
Our work reflects patterns in nature and is guided by whole systems thinking and ecological-based principles. We strive to create balanced ecosystems, focusing on soil health, biodiversity and succession to give resilient and abundant food gardens. Agroforestry, regenerative agriculture and permaculture principles imparted to us by our teachers and mentors are an integrated and core part of our work.
Our role is to share our knowledge and expertise with others, so that more resilient, biodiverse and abundant home systems and communities can be born, that both regenerate the earth and nourish people.
